For 25 years Ilmor has been best known for designing, developing and manufacturing high performance race engines for Formula 1 and IndyCar. This remains a core part of our business today, but with our state-of-the-art facility and highly skilled team we are able to turn our hand to any customer engine project and indeed virtually any mechanical engineering application. Clients can take advantage of our skills and resources, from design, analysis and manufacture of single engine components through to complete engines, or the performance development and durability testing of existing engines on our highly accurate dynos, emissions measurement and engine rebuild services. Our solutions are geared towards compact, lightweight, cost effective and high performance products, so whether it’s an original concept, or an innovative solution to a problem on an existing engine, our clients have come to associate the name of Ilmor with both excellence and flair. Ilmor Engineering Ltd. was founded byMario Illien, Paul Morgan and Roger Penske in 1984, initially to design, develop and manufacture engines for the IndyCar series. With backing from General Motors under the Chevrolet banner it quickly became successful in Indy racing, taking its first race win at Long Beach in 1987 (Mario Andretti). In 1988 Ilmor achieved the milestones of its first Indanapolis 500 win (Rick Mears)and CART championship (Danny Sullivan). Since then Ilmor have gone on to win more than 200 IndyCar races including 15 Indy 500 wins.
